Glenn, my idol and my best friend.

I would like to share a story about Glenn which I find hard share as he meant so much to me.

I first met Glenn when he got the head pros job at wrangaton golf club. I was 15 years old at the time and one afternoon after a round of golf Glenn randomly asked me what I was going to do a after my gcse results. Glenn asked me if I would like a summer job in the shop, so I agreed. My handicap was 26 at the time so I never thought there would be a future in golf for me. After a few months I realised how awesome Glenn was! He was funny, smart, friendly and just an all round great person to be around. After the months past we sort of hit it off and he became a brother to me. Any issues I had, he wanted to listen and he looked after me. The years went on and our friendship blossomed and we spent a lot of time together both at work and away from work. As the time went on I wanted to be like Glenn and with his coaching my handicap tumbled. We spent many great trips together playing in pro ams and Glenn always conducted himself in a professional manner (until the beers started flowing đź¤Ł)

In 2011 Glenn said it was time to move on from wrangaton and he got the head pros job at Tavistock golf club. He said, unfortunately he won’t have a job for me at Tavistock and at the time I was utterly devastated. On Glenn’s last day at wrangaton, he dropped me back to my house in plympton and I can remember I was crying my eyes out. Glenn said to me “don’t be upset mate, this isn’t the end you will always be my best mate and we will have plenty more great times together”

After Glenn left wrangaton, we stayed in touch. He would often message to see if I was ok. I would drive to Tavistock for lessons and at Christmas and new year he would message to wish my family all the best. Neither of of us were ever the best at keeping in contact but that’s the way we both were.

In recent years, we shared a room on my stag do and glenn was present on my wedding day and I remember seeing his face on my wedding day and he looked so happy for me.

I could go on and on but to cut a long story short Glenn was a one in a million. It pains me that I can’t thank him for everything he done for me, both on and in the course. I believe he made me a far better person and certainly a better golfer which has led to me being a professional golfer and doing a job I love so much. I miss you so much mate and I still can’t believe I can’t pick up the phone to talk to you or see you again.

I will always cherish the times we spent together and the memories will last a life time. Love you always mate xx
